In the last 12 months I got married, became a photo editor, published an hour-long documentary and quit my job. WILD. I know.

All of this meant taking fewer photos than ever before. I still love making photos and this year held plenty of highlights.

There was a healthy dose of state tournaments. I completed the most *Iowa* of assignments covering RAGBRAI, the Iowa State Fair and caucus campaigning. Two personal favorites were the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and the Beautiful Bulldog contest.

In my decade at the Des Moines Register, I’ve always enjoyed looking back on the year and putting together this collection of photos.

I decided this year should be no different – even though I started my new job at Iowa PBS in August.

My professional work in 2024 will look a bit different but I’m so excited to dig in and make some television. Stay tuned.
